Sustainable Operation and Management of Industrial Parks

Submitted by unido on

Overview:

Industrial parks (IPs) and special economic zones (SEZs) are increasingly seen as powerful tools for achieving sustainable development goals. While the potential benefits that IPs can deliver are well understood, these benefits can only materialize if the industrial parks are operated and managed well.

Effective and sustainable operation and management are key for an IP or SEZ to attract and retain tenant companies as well as to deliver a positive financial and social return.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the advantages and disadvantages of different operating models;
  • Introduce the types of services that industrial zones can offer;
  • Explain advantages and disadvantages of different pricing and product strategies;
  • Detail key success factors for operating a one-stop-shop;
  • Learn how to provide aftercare services in coordination with other agencies;
  • Introduce a framework and KPIs for performance monitoring;

Course Methodology:

This programme follows a learner-centered design and is aimed to provide learners with practical hands-on know-how that they can use in their day-to-day functions. To achieve this goal, the course will be delivered by combining theoretical learning with practical real-world examples. The course combines different types of learning materials including text segments, videos, practical exercises, gamification and multiple-choice quizzes.

The course is designed in a self-paced learning path delivered entirely online complemented by an online lecture by guest speakers. After registration, participants can start and complete modules and activities at their own pace. This online learning path offers:

  • A micro-learning experience characterized by small knowledge units (modules and micro-lessons) where participants consolidate and practice learnings through evaluations, exercises, and quizzes.
  • Scenario-based learning exposing participants to unique real-life cases and tasks of an industrial park professional.

The e-learning platform tracks the completion of individual modules. A final certificate will be given to participants completing all modules in the learning path.

The programme is delivered through UNIDO’s Industrial Parks Platform (IPP). By completing the learning path, participants will have access to an exclusive alumni network for continuous learning and exchange.
