Integrated Agro-Food Parks

Agro-food parks are crucial for advancing the inclusive and sustainable industrial development objectives of Member States. Integrated agro-food parks (IAFPs) are essential tools for addressing agricultural challenges and driving agro-industrial growth.

An IAFP is a centrally managed platform offering high-quality infrastructure, logistics, specialized facilities, and services to a community of tenants, including agro-industries, agribusiness firms, service providers, producers, and research institutions. These parks are spatially demarcated, with dedicated infrastructure to support firms and stakeholders engaged in agro-processing, production, and related activities.

Typically located in agriculture and agribusiness growth corridors, agro-food parks connect smallholder farmers with the demand side of the value chain. This ensures a consistent supply of raw materials to agro-industries, transitioning the sector from a fragmented, supply-driven model to an organized, demand-led, and quality-focused one. These parks facilitate the transformation of agricultural products, fostering integration, and creating synergies among agricultural producers, processors, input providers, business service providers, government agencies, research institutes, and training centers.

IAFPs perform five main functions:

Production support

Processing and value addition

Research and development (R&D)

Services and trade facilitation
